Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport Terminal Stage 1

Details

2014 Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport Toowoomba, QLD
Kelly Group was awarded Stage 1 of the roofing and cladding package on the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport which opened in November 2014 and is the first privately built public airport in Australia.  Architecturally designed, the terminal roofing system is symmetrical with one side mirroring the other. While the design specifications were challenging, Kelly Group achieved an outstanding result in the short period of seven months. Featuring raked walls and roofs and angled parapet walls, the design required sheets to be tailor cut to suit each section. This contemporary, world-class airport terminal focuses on clean, simple lines with extensive use of light and glass as well as timber, polished stone flooring and exposed concrete features.

This jet-capable airport is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy offering regular passenger services, charter flights, fly-in fly-out and airfreight services. Located 17 kilometres south west of Toowoomba, BWW Airport gives business travelers direct access to one of Australia’s investment hot spots and the south-western Queensland mining hub. It is also the gateway to Australia’s second largest agricultural basin and one of Queensland’s major precincts for health, education, and manufacturing. BWW Airport has been developed by Australian family-owned company, Wagners – leaders in global construction, logistics and infrastructure projects. The airport is Australia’s first fully privately funded public airport and the first built since Tullamarine opened almost 50 years ago.
